While healthcare companies have faced their share of challenges in the turbulent economy, many industry executives expect new opportunities for growth in the coming year. Middle market healthcare executives favor the Obama administration’s proposed healthcare reform initiatives by a nearly 2:1 margin and they believe some reform initiatives will be good for business and will have a positive impact on their operations.

More than 100 senior-level executives from middle-market healthcare companies were surveyed to gauge the financial downturn’s impact on their business and prospects. Much like the broader middle-market sentiment, healthcare executives acknowledge the harsh economic conditions facing the nation. However, unlike their counterparts, they appear to regard their plans for future growth with more confidence than caution.

This June 2009 report, which was compiled by Forbes Insights in association with CIT, reveals the multitude of factors which have contributed to the healthcare industry’s recession-resistance and predicted increase in hiring, spending and investment.
